Authorship and contributor ship

This policy ascertains that participants who have made substantial intellectual contributions to an article are given due credit without any personal bias. The research participants should understand their role in taking responsibility and being answerable to what is published. Participants are either author contributors (meaning they meet all four authorship criteria) or non-author contributors.

PAMS credits and lists contributors as follows:

  • Authorship: PAMS publish a list of author’s names at the beginning of the paper.
  • Contributor ship: PAMS will publish a contributor ship statement along with author affiliation.

Authorship; The international Committee of Medical Journal Editors Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly work in Medical Journals (ICMJE Recommendations 2019) recommend that authorship be based on the following four criteria:

  2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
  3. Final approval of the version to be published; AND
  4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions linked to the accuracy or integrity of any part of work are properly investigated and resolved.

In addition he should be the key person who can be approached by the journal and readers after publication.

Deceased authors; Deceased persons deemed appropriate as authors should be highlighted to the Editorial assistant when submitting your article and should also be added in the contributor ship statement.

Alteration to authorship:  If an author’s affiliation is changed during the course of work, the author should mention the place where he has contributed mostly to the research project. In case he has contributed while being affiliated with both stations, he can mention both. Further change of affiliation can be mentioned in the acknowledgement section.

Contributor ship statement: A contributor ship statement is required for every submitted article and should clearly outline who has contributed. Good ethical practice demands all four criteria’s of authorship needs to be fulfilled.

Acknowledgements; An acknowledgement statement may be included at the end of the paper, mentioning those who contributed in research, but who have not been recognized as contributors, as well as for personal expressions of gratitude based on their input, for example Staticians and lab attendants.
